Lesser horseshoe bats

WE'VE just been on a small jaunt to the south west of England.  In a Devon village that we visited there is a small church, almost a chapel really, where during the summer the most regular and numerous congregation are the bats.

These guys have taken up residence in the apex of the ceiling.  The very small (non-hanging human congregation) have to look after them and the church, with the funds of a church mouse apparently!  They do a great job and deserve our support.

It was amazing to see the bats so relaxed in broad day light.  I tried not to disturb them so only took a few pictures.  They certainly seem to have been watching me but barely twitched.

Fabulous!
